Undersecretary for Political Planning Meets Libyan Chargé d’Affaires

The Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Political Planning Ambassador Dr. Hisham Al-Alawi received at his office, the Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of the State of Libya in Baghdad Mr. Munir Muhammad Abu Qurain, upon his request.

After exchanging welcomes, Undersecretary Al Alawi highlighted the depth of the historical relations between the governments and peoples of the two brotherly countries, stressing the importance of activating the joint committee and reorganizing its meetings, and working to sign a memorandum of understanding for political consultations between the two sides.

Additionally, the Undersecretary referred to the “Study in Iraq” initiative, launched by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, explaining that Iraqi universities have opened their doors to non-Iraqi students from all over the world to study in Iraqi Universities with the ministry bearing the financial expenses, he stated that the number of students studying within this initiative reached approximately (2000) students, as well he proposed signing a memorandum of understanding for scientific and academic cooperation between the two countries to organize the affairs of students studying from both sides.

The two sides commended the security and political stability witnessed by Iraq, which contributed positively to revitalizing the national economy and attracting major international companies to work and invest in Iraq, which led to the completion of a number of service and construction projects in a short time. The Undersecretary explained the imminent completion of the “Al Faw Grand Port” project, which has reached advanced stages, in addition to starting work on the implementation of the “Development Road” project, which is one of the largest regional projects, as it links the continent of Asia to the continent of Europe via Iraq and Turkey, with the participation of countries such as Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, which contributes significantly to diversifying sources of income for Iraq.

On his part Mr. Abu Qurain, indicated the intention of the State of Libya to extend an official invitation to the Prime Minister of Iraq to visit Libya, after the end of the election period scheduled to be held in Libya and the formation of a new government.

At the end of the meeting Dr. Al Alawi proposed organizing a meeting between the Chargé d’Affairs and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research or one of the general directors specialized in university student affairs, to discuss several issues related to them, as well the Undersecretary expressed his readiness to cooperate in achieving these meetings.
