Donors’ Conference to Support Displaced Persons and Refugees in the Sahel and Lake Chad Region Convenes at OIC Headquarters in Jeddah
The Donors’ Conference to Support Displaced Persons and Refugees in the Sahel and Lake Chad Region, was held on October 26, 2024, at the OIC Headquarters in Jeddah. The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq to the Organization Mr. Mohammed Samir Al Naqshbandi participated in the Conference along with the desk officer Counselor Ahmed Salman Dawood. The Conference was organized by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in coordination with the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, where the meeting was inaugurated by Deputy Foreign Minister Eng. Waleed Al-Khuraiji, on behalf of Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.
The conference was attended by the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, and Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Adviser to the Royal Court and Supervisor General of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre. The conference was also attended by representatives of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF Mr. Ted Chaiban, along with a number of ministers of member states and their representatives in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
The Conference is held in implementation of the resolution of the 49th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, held in Nouakchott in 2023.
The Conference included a high-level session that addressed the humanitarian challenges facing the Sahel and the Lake Chad region, and witnessed the announcement of financial grants provided by member states to support these regions.
