Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein Discusses Strengthening Bilateral Relations with his Irish Counterpart in Dublin
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defense of Ireland Micheál Martin, at the headquarters of the Irish Foreign Ministry, on Thursday, October 17, 2024.
The meeting touched on enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries in the political, economic and legal fields, in addition they discussed the situation and escalation in the Middle East.
During the meeting the Minister emphasized the importance of collective action to stop the aggression on Gaza and Lebanon, warning that international divisions over putting an end to this escalation could lead to the spread of war, and worsen its impact on the global economy.
Additionally Minister Hussein underlined the importance of advancing bilateral relations, noting that Iraq represents a promising environment for investment, due to its great possibilities and opportunities, the Minister called on Irish companies and expertise to enter the Iraqi market, especially in the fields of the financial and banking system, agriculture, dairy industry, and health care.
A Memorandum for political consultations was signed between the two countries, which affirmed the importance of developing friendly relations to serve the interests of the peoples of both countries. The memorandum also stressed the need to exchange information on bilateral, regional and international issues of common concern, which would contribute to strengthening mutual understanding.
At the end of the meeting, the Minister extended an official invitation to his Irish counterpart to visit Iraq, and the Irish Minister promised to fulfill the invitation in the near future.
The meeting was attended by the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Dublin, Mr. Mushtaq Falih Hassan, along with a number of employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
