Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein Opens Embassy of Republic of Iraq in Irish Capital Dublin
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, opened on Thursday, October 17, 2024, the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Dublin, in a step aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Iraq and Ireland, and consolidate the foundations of cooperation and friendship between the two countries. The opening ceremony was attended by the Deputy Lord Mayor of Dublin Ms. Donna Cooney, and the Head of the Protocol Division Ambassador Gerard Keown, where they delivered welcoming speeches in which they commended this step that reflects Iraq’s interest in strengthening bilateral relations. As well several ambassadors of Arab and foreign countries participated in the ceremony.
During the opening ceremony the Minister emphasized that the opening of the Embassy reflects the depth of relations between the two friendly countries, and comes as an extension of the successes achieved by Iraqi foreign policy at the regional and international levels, in addition to the progress made in multilateral cooperation.
The Minister indicated that expanding Iraq’s diplomatic representation abroad is a fundamental pillar for achieving foreign policy goals, explaining that the opening of the Embassy in Dublin reflects Iraq’s commitment to strengthening its relations with Ireland across various political, especially the economic, scientific and cultural fields.
Furthermore the Minister stated “with the global economy more interconnected than ever, countries are seeking to build new partnerships to enhance prosperity and development, and despite geographical separation, we seek to build strong and resilient economies that are able to provide a better future for the people of both countries”.
Minister Hussein pointed out that Ireland represents a model for transforming into a center for innovation, technology and education, as it has succeeded in attracting the most prominent international companies. In contrast, Iraq enjoys rich natural resources and a strategic location that makes it a global trade link, which enables it to play a pivotal role in the Middle East and beyond.
At the end of his speech, the Minister underlined the importance of the role of the Iraqi and Irish communities in strengthening relations between the two countries, emphasizing that investing the skills and communities networks will further accelerates the pace of economic and cultural cooperation between the two parties.
On the sidelines of the opening ceremony, the Minister held a meeting with the staff of the Iraqi Embassy in Dublin, where he urged them to exert efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and serve Iraq’s interests on the international arena.
