Undersecretary for Political Planning Discusses ways to Enhance Bilateral Cooperation with New Spanish Ambassador to Iraq
The Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Political Planning Ambassador Dr. Hisham Al Alawi, received Ms. Alicia del Pulgar the new Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Iraq, and they discussed several issues of common concern.
The meeting attached a special importance on enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two countries across various fields, especially exchanging of visits between senior officials of both friendly countries, economic cooperation and trade exchange, and holding the Iraqi-Spanish Joint Committee, in addition to scientific and cultural exchange. The two sides also underlined the activating of the memorandum of understanding on training diplomatic staff and enhancing cooperation between the Spanish Diplomatic Academy and the Iraqi Foreign Service Institute, which was signed in 2017.
Additionally, they discussed ways to expand cooperation across vital sectors, including infrastructure and economic development. The Undersecretary stressed the importance of the role that Spain can play in supporting the efforts to rebuild the infrastructure in Iraq, mainly in the railway sector, including the Development Road and the Karbala-Najaf line, and other vital projects, which contribute to enhancing stability and economic prosperity.
Undersecretary Al Alawi touched on the topic of facilitating the movement of citizens between the two countries, where the possibility of canceling the entry visa and its reflections on strengthening tourism and economic relations, and deepening cultural exchange between the governments and peoples of both countries.
At the end of the meeting, the Undersecretary expressed his appreciation for the productive cooperation between the Republic of Iraq and the Kingdom of Spain, indicating his aspiration to continue developing bilateral relations during the next stage.
On her part, Ambassador del Pulgar extended her thanks and gratitude to the Undersecretary for providing the opportunity to meet and the importance of the topics discussed with the aim of developing relations between the two friendly countries
