Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Receives British Ambassador to Iraq
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein received the British Ambassador to Iraq Mr. Stephen Hitchcock, in Baghdad on Sunday, October 6, 2024.
The meeting discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between Iraq and the United Kingdom, including the scheduled visit of the Prime Minister to the United Kingdom, which was postponed and is expected to take place at a later date.
The two sides indicated that the future visit aims to establish sustainable relations between the two countries by signing the Strategic Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, which will contribute to strengthening the economic partnership to serve the interests of both countries.
As well as both sides touched on regional conditions especially the war waged by the Israeli entity in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
Minister Hussein affirmed the necessity of stopping the military operations in Gaza and Lebanon, and he called for finding solutions that would calm the situation and avoid expanding the scope of conflict.
Furthermore the Minister stressed the importance of achieving calmness in the region to avoid the outbreak of a broad war leading to a large-scale humanitarian disaster.
In another part of the meeting, Ambassador Hitchcock provided an explanation of his country’s policy regarding the tense situation in the region and stressed that the British government is in continuous contact with all parties and effective governments, in order to ease tensions and end the crises.
