Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Meets Canadian International Development Minister to Discuss ways to Enhance Development and Economic Cooperation

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met with the Canadian Minister of International Development Mr. Ahmed Hussen, on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, on Friday, September 27, 2024. 

The meeting touched on ways of enhancing bilateral ties between Iraq and Canada, with a particular focus on the areas of economic development and expertise exchange, as well as supporting development efforts in Iraq.

‎The two sides stressed the importance of Canadian support in developing industry and vocational training in Iraq, which contributes to enhancing local economic capacities. In addition they discussed the possibility of Canada providing additional support for exploration efforts in Iraq, and benefiting from Canada’s advanced expertise in this field.

‎In the context of environmental cooperation, the discussion touched on the possibility of Canada providing support to preserve the Iraqi marshes and enhance joint efforts in the field of environmental protection. As well as they discussed opportunities for cooperation in clean energy and advanced agriculture projects, with a focus on developing research centers and the transfer of Canadian expertise to Iraq.

This meeting is part of the efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries across various fields to achieve common interests, and contributes to sustainable development in Iraq.
