Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein Meets his Indian Counterpart on Sidelines of UN General Assembly

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein met with the Indian Minister of External Affairs Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York, on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. The meeting reviewed the bilateral relations between the two countries, and the commonalities and opportunities that can be invested in developing and advancing these relations. The two sides stressed the need for relations to move in the right direction to be effective and productive across various fields.

Minister Jaishankar extended an official invitation to Minister Hussein to visit India in the near future, expressing his thanks for Iraq’s participation in the Global South Summit that was recently held under the patronage of the Indian President, in which Minister Hussein delivered Iraq’s speech that expressed the country’s orientations on the topics of discussion.

On his part, the Minister promised to honor the invitation at the beginning of next year. Additionally, the meeting tackled the economic and trade opportunities between the two countries, where it was agreed to organize a visit for a delegation of businessmen and representatives of the Iraqi Chamber of Commerce to India to meet their counterparts and expand the horizons of economic cooperation.
