Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister: Continuing Aggression on Lebanon without International Pressure will Lead to Escalation of War
In a special interview with Al Jazeera Channel on 23 September, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein expressed Iraq’s concern regarding threats of the conflict spread in the region, warning that the continuation of the aggression on Lebanon without international pressure could lead to an escalation of the war.
The Minister stressed that there is an international failure in dealing with the violations committed by the Israeli entity, adding that “Iraq supports its brothers in Palestine and Lebanon,” and explained that the entire region is “under fire,” which imposes major challenges on everyone.
Minister Hussein indicated that the economic crisis the Arab world is experiencing affects in a direct way the role of Arab League, stressing the need for collective action to address these crises. He added: “We are in constant contact with Arab capitals and influential countries on the international arena, and we need to combine efforts to confront these challenges.
The Minister also warned that “the threat will reach other countries, and the situation will be dangerous if there is not enough international pressure.” Additionally the Minister mentioned that “the logic of war dominates the discourse, specially from the Israeli entity side, without facing any pressure from any International party”.
In a related context, Minister Fuad Hussein announced that Iraq will call for an Arab and Islamic summit during the meeting of the Council of Arab Foreign Ministers, which will be held today in New York, noting the existence of proposals from other countries, expressing his hope that this meeting will result in positive interaction and understandings.
