Head of Europe Department Participates in Celebration of 80th Anniversary of Establishment of Relations Between Iraq and Russia

The Head of the Europe Department Ambassador Bakr Ahmed Al Jaff, participated in the celebration held at the Russian Foreign Ministry’s headquarters in Moscow on September 11, 2024, in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Mr. Sergey Lavrov, and a number of Heads and members of diplomatic missions in Moscow.

During his speech Ambassador Al Jaff conveyed the thanks of the Iraqi government, and His Excellency the First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation for organizing this event on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the Republic of Iraq and the Russian Federation, which started on September 9, 1944, highlighting the depth of historical ties between the two countries and the various areas of cooperation between them, in addition the great convergence of views on many regional and global issues.

Russian Foreign Minister Mr. Sergey Lavrov stressed in his speech during the celebration, that the Russian-Iraqi relations extend for eighty years, and Russia is constantly seeking to develop these relations across all fields.

At the end of the event, the Head of the Europe Department and the Russian Foreign Minister toured an exhibition of photos, documents and correspondence documenting diplomatic relations.
