Joint Statement on the Federal Ministerial Council for Economy and Kurdistan Regional Economic Council Meeting

The Ministerial Council for Economy held its 28th regular Meeting with the Kurdistan Regional Economic Council in Erbil, Kurdistan Region, over two days to discuss a range of issues of common concern between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government.

The issues the meeting dealt with was addressed in a clear and positive atmosphere, as well several issues were addressed by immediate decisions in the meeting, while others were addressed by recommending them to the Federal Council of Ministers, with a focus on continuing dialogues to address issues that require more dialogue and meetings.

The Council recommended to the Federal Council of Ministers to direct the Federal Ministry of Finance to address the issue of the salaries of the region’s employees who were excluded due to their lack of biometric registration. Issues related to standardization of the agricultural calendar, import and export licenses, factory licenses, company registration, contractor classification, border crossings, customs, the oil and energy file, and the banking sector were also discussed.

Additionally, the Ministerial Council for Economy recommended the continuation of the joint committees work between the ministries and the concerned sectors to complete the tasks assigned to them and reach common understandings that benefit all citizens of Iraq. The Council also recommended holding a special session at a high level to discuss the files of oil, energy, border crossings and customs.

Finally, the Economic Council of the Kurdistan Region was invited to a joint meeting with the Ministerial Council for Economy in Baghdad.
