Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein Holds a Phone Call with his Irish Counterpart to Discuss Regional Situations and Bilateral Relations
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein held a phone call with his Irish counterpart Mr. Micheál Martin, on Wednesday, September 4, 2024.
During the call the two sides discussed regional and international situations, as well as the need to de-escalate the situation in the region, especially in the Gaza Strip and its surroundings. They also emphasized the importance of the international community to play its role in achieving a ceasefire and protecting civilians in light of the escalation of military operations. The Minister appreciated Ireland’s clear stance in calling for an end to the aggression on Gaza and standing by the Palestinian people.
Additionally, both Ministers touched on bilateral relations and ways to develop them across various fields, with an emphasis on exchanging bilateral visits between the two countries in the near future. Minister Hussein pointed out the need to reopen the Irish embassy in Iraq.
On his part Minister Martin appreciated the role played by Iraq in the efforts to achieve security, stability and peace in the region.
