Foreign Ministry Holds a Memorial Service on the 15th Anniversary of Terrorist Bombing that Targeted the Ministry’s Headquarters in 2009
In the presence of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein the Foreign Ministry held a memorial service today, Monday, August 19, 2024, on the fifteenth anniversary of the terrorist bombing that targeted the Ministry building in 2009, which lead to the martyrdom of the Ministry employees and the injury of others. The ceremony started with the playing of the national anthem, followed by the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran. Then, the Minister laid a wreath at the memorial that holds the names of the Ministry martyrs. The attendance read Surah Al Fatiha on the soules of the victims.
The Minister delivered a speech in which he stressed the importance of remembering that painful tragedy, noting that the terrorist attack was a desperate attempt to undermine the determination and will of Iraqis to build a bright future. The Minister renewed the pledge not to forget the sacrifices of the martyrs, and the Ministry’s commitment to continue efforts to combat terrorism and enhance security and stability in Iraq. The Minister also stressed in his speech the importance of national unity in facing challenges, calling on all Iraqis to unite and work together to protect the country from the dangers threatening it. He affirmed that the Foreign Ministry will continue to make every possible effort to strengthen Iraq’s foreign relations in a way that serves the interests of the people and achieves development and stability.
The Minister ended his speech by praying for mercy for the martyrs, and for Iraq to be protected from all harm, emphasizing that the Ministry will remain an impenetrable fortress in the face of anyone who tries to tamper with the security of the country.
