Iraq’s Chargé d’Affaires to UN Discusses Digital Transformation and AI Governance with UN Secretary General’s Envoy on Technology

The Chargé d’Affaires of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations Dr. Abbas Kadhom Obaid met with Mr. Amandeep Singh Gill UN Secretary General’s Envoy on Technology. The two sides discussed digital transformation and AI governance, as Dr. Obaid stressed the importance of building frameworks for data protection and ensuring the responsible use of AI, and highlighting Iraq’s vision for digital transformation.

On his part, Mr. Gill commended Iraq’s commitment in achieving the objectives of sustainable development and affirmed the United Nations’ support for Iraq’s efforts in this area, stressing the importance of improving communication and capacity building, and using technology to address challenges such as water scarcity. Additionally, both sides agreed to enhance future cooperation through workshops and training programs in coordination with international agencies.
