Iraqi Ambassador to Russia Meets Minister of Government of Moscow to Discuss Strengthening Economic and Investment Relations
Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the Russian Federation Haider Al Athari, met with Minister of Moscow Government and head of the Department of foreign economic and international connections of the city of Moscow Sergey Cheremin, the Deputy Head of the Department of Economic Relations, Mr. Vyacheslav Vyacheslavovich, and the Advisor to the Moscow Government for Economic Relations, Dr. George Zureikat, at the Government Headquarters in Moscow, on Monday, August 12, 2014,
Minister Cheremin welcomed Ambassador Al Athari and his accompanying delegation, expressing his gratitude for this visit, confirming his genuine willingness to visit Baghdad and discuss signing memorandum of understanding to enhance cooperation between the two countries, especially in light of the great investment opportunities in Iraq after the recent reconstruction campaign.
On his part Ambassador Al Athari highlighted the depth of bilateral relations between Iraq and Russia, indicating the Iraqi government efforts in supporting the private sector and providing sovereign guarantees to protect investors and businessmen who wants to work in Iraq. He also talked about the wide participation of Russian companies in the upcoming Baghdad International Fair, which will be held in its 48th session from November 1 to 7. Minister Cheremin expressed his interest in forming a team of industrial companies to participate in the Fair if the Moscow government will be invited.
At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed to develop a roadmap that includes the Russian side sending a proposed cooperation program, to be forwarded to the relevant Iraqi authorities, and then agreeing to organize mutual visits to discuss the program in preparation for signing it in a memorandum of understanding or an agreement, whether in Baghdad or Moscow, with the aim of enhancing cooperation across various fields between the two countries.
