Undersecretary for Political Planning Chairs a Meeting for Enhancing Collaboration with Geneva Water Hub
Within the framework of the Foreign Ministry follow-up to the implementation of the government program priorities, and the efforts of water diplomacy. Undersecretary for Political Planning Ambassador Dr. Hisham Al Alawi, chaired the virtual meeting of the Ministry’s working group with the Geneva Water Hub working group headed by Director General of the Geneva Water Hub Mr. Mark Zeitoun, on Sunday, July 21, 2024. The two parties discussed access to the hub’s expertise in developing effective negotiation skills in the water field by holding specialized workshops for the relevant Iraqi national teams, to ensure Iraq’s fair and equitable share of water. The possibility of transforming the water issue into a platform for cooperation between Iraq and its regional neighbors in a way that enhances peace and stability in the region during the next few months was also discussed.
On his part, Mr. Zeitoun explained the Geneva Water Hub perspective regarding its capabilities to support Iraqi expertise in negotiating and managing the water file, indicating the possibility of harnessing the center’s capabilities to achieve Iraq’s interest. He also stressed the center’s support for creating a road map to transform the water file into a collaborative space and partnership between Iraq and its regional neighbors.
