Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Receives Somalia Prime Minister

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, received Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia Mr. Hamza Abdi Barre, and his accompanying ministerial delegation at the Ministry’s headquarters in Baghdad, on Monday, July 8, 2024. 

During the meeting, the Minister highlighted the historical relations that bind the two brotherly countries and the necessity of developing them in various fields, in addition opening new horizons for cooperation, and supporting Iraqi investors heading towards the African side, especially the brotherly country Somalia, due to its strategic location and great wealth. He also recalled the orientation of Iraq’s current foreign policy of openness towards African countries and opening new markets.

On his part, the Somali Prime Minister extended his thanks and appreciation for the warm reception and the positive and fruitful meetings he held in Baghdad, explaining the difficult circumstances that Somalia went through and stressing that his country has passed the difficult stage and is now witnessing development in political and economic relations.

The two sides agreed on the importance of activating the formation of the Higher Ministerial Committee and establishing a mechanism for coordination between the two countries.

Additionally Minister Fuad Hussein, affirmed Iraq’s readiness to cooperate with Somalia in the cultural and scientific fields as well, by allowing Somali students to study in Iraq.
