Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations Receives Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs of Organization of Islamic Cooperation
On Monday, June 6, 2024, Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Bilateral Relations, Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Mohammed Bahr Al Ulum, received the delegation of the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, headed by the Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Ambassador Yousef Al Dubaie, and the Director of the Organization’s Legal Affairs Department, Ambassador Hassan Ali, and the Director of Arab Affairs, Mr. Shaker Mahmoud Bandar.
During the meeting they reviewed bilateral relations between the Republic of Iraq and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, in addition to exchanging views on enhancing cooperation across various fields to serve the common interests of the Iraqi people and the peoples of Islamic countries, Undersecretary Bahr Al Ulum affirmed Iraq’s keenness to strengthen the organization’s role and its effective presence in international forums, stressing Iraq’s aspiration to open the regional office of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Baghdad, indicating that the Iraqi government is fully prepared for consultations at all levels to reach an agreement between the two parties regarding the tasks, and responsibilities that will be assigned to the office.
On his part Ambassador Al Dubaie, extended his thanks to Iraq’s government for the warm reception and hospitality they received, and for its continued support for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, praising the role played by Iraq in the region and its active participation in formulating the organization’s policies.
The meeting was attended by the head of International Organizations and Conferences Department Fadel Al Rahim, and the head of the Islamic Cooperation division Uday Abid Hameed.
