Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Meets Russian Deputy Foreign Minister
On Wednesday, May 15, 2024. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, met with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Envoy for the Middle East and North Africa, Mr. Mikhail Bogdanov, on the sidelines of the foreign ministers’ preparatory meeting for the Council of the Arab League at the 33rd Arab Summit in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
During the meeting, they discussed the historical relations between Iraq and the Russian Federation, and ways to enhance bilateral cooperation across various fields to serve the interests of the two friendly countries. In addition to the Minister underscored the improvement and stability of the security, political and economic conditions in Iraq, indicating that the government program depends on improving services through launching Services projects, stressing the necessity of activating the joint Iraqi-Russian committee. As well the Minister extended an invitation to Mr. Bogdanov to visit Iraq, on his part the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister expressed his full readiness to answer the invitation, indicating his country’s desire for Iraq participation in the international economic conference that will be held in St. Petersburg at the beginning of next month.
The two sides also discussed the current regional and international situation, the war in Palestine, and the Arab and international exerted efforts to achieve a ceasefire, protect civilians, and emphasize the delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza.
