Statement: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Concludes his Visit to Canada after a Series of Important Meetings
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, concluded his visit to Canada, along with his accompanying delegation, upon the official invitation extended to him by the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ms. Mélanie Joly, during the visit the Minister held several important meetings as follows :
Minister Fuad Hussein met with Canadian Minister of National Defense Bill Blair, he expressed his appreciation for the efforts provided by Canada to Iraq in fighting Daesh terrorist groups, as well as they reviewed the role of the Global Coalition and the NATO mission in supporting Iraq in its war against terrorism.
In addition to, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, met with the Chair of the Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade Mr. Peter M. Boehm, the meeting discussed the latest regional and international developments, they also stressed the importance of exchanging parliamentary visits between the two countries and sharing experiences to benefit from the longstanding experience of the federal system in Canada.
The Minister also met with the staff of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Ottawa, His Excellency stressed the necessity of working on developing bilateral relations between the two countries across all fields, emphasizing on providing the best services to the Iraqi community.
As well as, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein, met with Canadian Minister of International Development Mr. Ahmed Hussen, the meeting discussed the possibility of developing the energy, gas, agriculture, mining, tourism and climate change sectors, by benefiting from Canadian expertise in those areas, the Minister expressed his appreciation for the Canadian government’s decision for providing fund for UNRWA. Both ministers touched on the possibility of Canadian companies accessing the Iraqi market in light of the security stability, as well as being a fertile environment for investment and sustainable development.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, met with Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ms. Mélanie Joly, during the meeting they exchanged views on the ongoing war in Gaza and its consequences on the region and the world, they also reviewed the Canadian experience on the system of federal governance and the regionalism and the possibility of benefiting from it to develop the experience of the federal system in Iraq.
In addition to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein, met with the Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada Mr. Greg Fergus, at the Parliament building in the Canadian capital Ottawa, the Minister extended an invitation to Speaker Fergus, for visiting Iraq to strengthen parliamentary relations and benefit from the Canadian democratic experience.
At the end of the visit, Minister Hussein inaugurated the Consulate General of the Republic of Iraq in Toronto, on the sidelines of the inauguration His Excellency delivered a speech before a group of members of the Iraqi community in which he emphasized that the main task of Iraqi consulates in the world is to serve the members of the community in the countries where they operate, he also reviewed the government’s economic policy and the role of the Iraqi community in encouraging Canadian companies to work in Iraq
