Iraq’s Permanent Representative to International Maritime Organization Meets Secretary General of IMO
The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq to the International Maritime Organization, Ambassador Muhammad Jaafar Al-Sadr, met IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez at IMO Headquarters in London. Ambassador Al-Sadr congratulated Mr. Dominguez for assuming his new position as Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization this year, thanking the organization for its continued technical support to the Iraqi maritime sector, hoping for continued cooperation.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Ambassador Al-Sadr deposited the two instruments of accession of the Republic of Iraq to IMO treaties which includes (the International Convention on Maritime Search and Rescue, and the Protocol for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against the Safety of Fixed Platforms Located on the Continental Shelf, 2005), in the same context, Ambassador Al-Sadr affirmed Iraq’s commitment to complete the ratification of all agreements related to the preservation of the marine environment and maritime safety and security.
On his part, Mr. Dominguez welcomed this visit, praising the efforts made by Iraq in implementing international standards in the maritime sector, and the active participation of the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq in the organization’s meetings, stressing the organization’s keenness to continue providing technical support to Iraq in order to achieve those goals. The meeting was attended by the Naval Attaché of the Republic of Iraq to the United Kingdom Captain Mazen Al Kaabi.
