Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Holds a Meeting with Ambassadors of European Union, Canada, Brazil and Australia accredited to Iraq

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, held a meeting on Sunday, February 4, 2024, with Ambassadors of the European Union, Canada, Brazil and Australia to Iraq, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Baghdad.
During the meeting they discussed the recent attacks the United States launched against Iraq, targeting Iraqi security forces, and civilian sites in Akashat and Al-Qa’im areas leading to significant human and material damages.
Minister Hussein reiterated the government’s rejection for Iraq to be a ground for settling scores between conflicting countries, stressing Iraq is not a place for sending messages, and show of force between adversaries, underscoring the government responsibility for protecting diplomatic missions and foreign advisors in Iraq therefore any attack on them is an assault on Iraq’s sovereignty, and is not within the government policy framework, in addition to he pointed out the necessity to return to negotiations table with the Higher Military Commission to reach understandings regarding the military advisory presence of the United States of America and the coalition countries.
On his part, Ambassador of the European Union in Baghdad Thomas Seiler, expressed his sincere condolences and sympathy to the Iraqi government and people, expressing the European Union’s willingness to support the stability of Iraq and work for peace and security in the region, as well as a number of ambassadors from European diplomatic missions working in Iraq also expressed their support for the Iraqi government.
At the end of the meeting, Minister Hussein affirmed the necessity of ending the conflict in the region, calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and abandon the military options in order to avoid escalation in the region.
