Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Meets Executive Director of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein met with Ms. Ghada Waly Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime UNODC, at the headquarters of the United Nations Office in Vienna, on Monday January 22, 2024.
During the meeting, they discussed the challenges facing Iraq and the region, especially on combating corruption, drugs, cross-border crime, terrorism, border control programs and migrant smuggling.
Minister Hussein praised the efforts exerted by Ms. Ghada Wali and her team in both Vienna and Baghdad, for their support to Iraq through a number of implemented programs. Minister Hussein stressed Iraq’s continued support for the Office to implement programs designated for Iraq, in a related context the Minister extended an invitation for Ms. Wali to visit Iraq.
On her part, the Executive Director expressed her happiness with this meeting and the fruitful cooperation with Iraq over the past few years, praising Iraq’s efforts to combat drugs, corruption and other issues, stressing that Iraq is a large and important country in the region and their Office will continue its support for Iraq in several areas, especially in combating drugs, in addition to expressing full willingness to develop the Iraqi national laboratories in this regard, and provide educational expertise to protect the youth from this scourge
