Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at Iraq’s Permanent mission to UN in New York Meets Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict
Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Permanent mission of Iraq to the United Nations in New York Dr. Abbas Kadhim Obaid, met with Ms. Virginia Gamba Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict.
Dr. Obaid extended his thanks to Ms. Gamba and her team for their exerted efforts to visit Iraq, and view closely the conditions and mechanisms for implementing the joint action plan between the two sides, stressing Iraq’s commitment to implement everything agreed upon in the action plan, continue cooperation, and prevent any violations against children.
On her part, Ms. Gamba reviewed the most important outcomes of her visit to iraq from 7-11, January 2024, where she met with senior officials, in addition to visiting the juvenile prison in Tobji.
Ms. Gamba expressed her thanks for the facilities provided by the mission and the Iraqi authorities that contributed to the success of the visit and the achievement of its goals, emphasizing on her support and conviction for the measures taken by the government of the Republic of Iraq in preventing any violations against children, and praised the progress made in implementing the provisions of the action plan by the Government in March 2023 to prevent the recruitment and use of children .
