Permanent Representative Gives Statement on Behalf of the Group of Asia-Pacific

In his first activity as Coordinator of the Asia-Pacific Group at UNCTAD, the Permanent Representative of Iraq in Geneva Ambassador Hussein Mahmoud Alkhateeb, delivered a statement on behalf of the Group at the 78th Session of the Working Party on the Strategic Framework and Program Budget, on Monday, 2 September 2019 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.

The Permanent Representative commended the Secretariat’s continued efforts in providing technical assistance to developing countries, pointing out that limited resources and fluctuating levels of financial support prevented UNCTAD from meeting the growing demand from developing countries for technical assistance programs. Mr. Alkhateeb encouraged donors to improve the quantity and quality of their financial contributions to enable UNCTAD to properly plan to meet the most urgent needs of developing countries and fulfil its commitments fully and in a timely manner
