Minister of Foreign Affairs Attends the Hosting Session in the Council of Representatives to Discuss the Recent Attacks on Iraq
On Tuesday, October 11, 2022, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Fuad Hussein, attended the hosting session called for by the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee, with the presence of the First Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Mr Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, the Chairman of the Committee, Representative Amer Al-Fayez, and a number of the members of the Committee, to discuss the file of the recent attacks on various regions in Iraq. At the beginning of the session, the Minister extended his thanks and appreciation to the Chairman and members of the Committee for the continuity of cooperation and integration between the legislature and executive.
The Minister elaborated on the Ministry’s diplomatic measures taken by the Ministry at the regional and international levels to counter these attacks, which are regarded as a violation to the Iraqi sovereignty and the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and international law.
The Minister touched upon the ministry’s policy within the directions of the government curriculum and the national principles of Iraq, reviewing the premises and priorities of foreign policy at this stage, which is based on balance and realising common interests.
He emphasized that the ministry aims to establish and deepen Iraqi relations on the basis of common interests and cooperation to confront the common risks, stressing the need for complementary action, formulation of national diplomatic performance, and continuous consultation between the executive and legislative authorities, which contributes to strengthening Iraq’s relations.
It is worth noting that this hosting session comes in the interest of maintaining the relationship between the ministry and the parliamentary committee, and briefing it on the activities, political developments, and the ministry’s work.
