Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs meets with his Algerian counterpart and discusses with him important bilateral files and issues of common interest
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein discussed important bilateral files and issues of common interest between the two countries, stressing Iraq’s endeavor to strengthen relations with Algeria in a more effective political, cultural and economic manner.
This came during his meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Algeria, Mr. Ramtane Lamamra, on Friday, October 28, 2022, on the sidelines of his participation in the preparatory foreign ministers meeting for the Council of the League of Arab countries at the summit level in its 31st session, which is taking place in Algeria. The Minister added that Iraq considers Algeria one of the pivotal countries in the Arab Maghreb, and coordination between the two countries must continue in various fields to serve Arab interests and issues, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause. Stressing the need for concerted Iraqi-Algerian efforts within the efforts of the meetings of the League of Arab States in order to discuss all files. The Minister called for the necessity of convening the Iraqi-Algerian joint committee in Baghdad, opening new horizons for bilateral relations between the two countries, and bridging cooperation in the interest of the two peoples. For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Algeria, Mr. Ramtane Lamamra, congratulated the Minister on the occasion of forming the new government and renewing confidence in him as a Minister foreign affairs of the Republic of Iraq, stressing that Iraq is a sister country, and both the Iraqi and Algerian peoples have historically many commonalities.
Stating: Algeria is open to Iraq, and is ready to cooperate in various fields: cultural, economic, societal, and security.
