Iraq Elected as Coordinator of Asia-Pacific Group
The Asia-Pacific Group elected Iraq as its coordinator on 5/8/2019, replacing Pakistan as the former coordinator of the Group. The election of Iraq as the Asia-Pacific Group Coordinator is an important achievement and an appreciation for Iraq’s efforts within UNCTAD and in recognition of its return to its position among the influential countries in international organizations, especially in light of the start of preparations for UNCTAD 15, scheduled to be held in October 2020 Barbados, a process in which coordinators of various groups, including Iraq, play a very important role.
