Minister of Foreign Affairs Receives Telephone Call from His French Counterpart
On Tuesday, 2/8/2022, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Fuad Hussein received a Telephone Call from the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Catherine Colonna. Minister Husseincongratulated the French Minister on her assumption of the position of French Foreign Minister, wishing her success in her tasks.
The two sides discussed upgrading the bilateral relations in various fields, and means to enhance the consultation and coordination between Baghdad and Paris. The Minister thanked the French Government’s supportive stances for Iraq in various fields.
The Minister briefed his French counterpart on Iraq’s internal situation and the demonstrations in Iraq, confirming that they represent a situation of the fledgling democracy practised by Iraqi people within the political process in Iraq.
The two ministers also discussed a number of regional and international issues of common concern, affirming the need to reduce the tension and realise pacification in the region, and avoid escalation that would not serve any party.
The two ministers touched on the bilateral relations between Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran, and their improvement in certain areas. They emphasized the need to continue the discussions that had begun in Baghdad, and to find solutions that would realisesecurity and stability, and advance the process of cooperation to realise peace and development.
The two ministers also discussed the negotiations on the nuclear agreement between Iran and the six countries, and its positive repercussions on the security and stability of the region.
On her part, the French Foreign Minister offered her sincere condolences to the government and people of Iraq on the martyrdom of a number of citizens as a result of the bombardment of a tourist village in Duhok Province, confirmingFrance’s commitment to fully support Iraq’s sovereignty in order to ensure its security and stability.
In conclusion, the Minister invited the FrenchMinister to visit Baghdad to discuss ways to enhance the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.
