Senior Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs receives the Italian Ambassador to Iraq

On May 19, 2022, the Senior Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Nizar Al-Khairallah, received Italian Ambassador to Iraq Mr Maurizio Griganti. During the meeting, they discussed means of developing the joint cooperation between the two countries, and the details of the upcoming visit of the Italian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms Marina Sereni. During the meeting, they discussed developments of the political process in Iraq and efforts to form the new Iraqi government. The Undersecretary affirmed Iraq’s keenness to develop its relation with Italy in various fields. They also discussed developments in the international arena, particularly those related to the current crisis between NATO countries and Russia due to the ongoing war in Ukraine and its repercussions on the energy sector, especially gas, on which European countries depend significantly on their imports from Russia, in addition to other negative repercussions of this war at the global level.
