Iraq Participates in the High-Level Ministerial Meeting on Human Rights and Role of Civil Society in Combating Terrorism
Iraq has participated with an official delegation in the high-level ministerial meeting which was held in the city of Malacca, Spain, led by Dr Qahtan Taha Khalaf, Undersecretary for Legal Affairs and Multilateral Relations, and the membership of the Head of the Department of Human Rights, Ambassador Dr Hisham al-Alawi and the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq in New York, Ambassador Muhammad Bahr al-Ulum.
The Undersecretary delivered Iraq’s speech at the meeting, referring to the significant achievements made by the Iraqi security forces in the liberation and counter-terrorism operations in respect of human rights principles. He also touched upon the security challenges of keeping foreign fighters of the ISIS in al-Hol camp, stressing the necessity for states to fulfil their obligations to transfer their nationals from the camp in order to preserve peace, stability and security in the region, explaining that Iraq will continue its constructive cooperation with the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism and other relevant agencies to realise the desired goals.
