Head of the Department of Human Rights Meets the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide

On Sunday 15/5/2022, Ambassador Dr Hisham al-Alawi, Head of the Department of Human Rights, met Ms Alice Nderitu, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Special Adviser on the prevention of Genocide, at the Ministry’s headquarters.

At the beginning of the meeting, Ambassador al-Alawi welcomed the guests, commending the efforts exerted by the United Nations to help Iraq in the field of the definition of crimes of ISIS against a large specimen of Iraqi people as genocide. The Ambassador affirmed the need to cooperate with the Iraqi government in providing assistance and support to the families of the victims and those affected by these crimes and work to prevent their recurrence in the future.

An invitation was also extended to the Under-Secretary-General to attend the National Day of Mass Graves symposium, which will be held at the Ministry’s headquarters on 16/5/2022.
