Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the Holy See meets the Grand Master of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre
Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the Holy See, Rahman Al-‘Amiry has met the Grand Master of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre and former Apostolic Nuncio to Baghdad, Cardinal Fernando Filoni at his workplace.
Ambassador Al-‘Amiry has extended his thanks to Cardinal Fernando Filoni for the following: 1) providing the opportunity of meeting; 2) his role in enhancing the relations between the two countries; 3) the participation in the success of the visit of the Pope Francis to Iraq; and 4) his interest in the affairs of the Christian Sect in Iraq and encouraging them to remain in the country.
His Eminence Cardinal Filoni has called for the participation in the activity that is due to be held by the Embassy on 8th of the upcoming March to revive the first annual anniversary of the Apostolic visit to Iraq.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Rome, Safiya Al-Suhail has attended the meeting. She has expressed her pleasure in this meeting and her thanks to the Cardinal for everything he has offered for Iraq during his assignment as an Apostolic Nuncio to Baghdad.
The Ambassadors of the Republic of Iraq to the Holy See and Rome have paid a tribute and appreciation for the exerted efforts by his Eminence in writing a book “The Church in Iraq … History, Development, and Message from the Beginning to Today” which was published in Arabic.
Ambassador Al-‘Amiry has invited his Eminence to hold a symposium at the Embassy to talk about his experience as an Apostolic Nuncio to Baghdad and the idea behind writing the book.
In return, the Cardinal Filoni has expressed his pleasure in this meeting; love for Iraq; and agony for what Iraq has experienced during the period of control of the terrorist Da’esh organisation on the areas inhabited by Christians and Yazidis. The book written by his eminence about Iraq is the only one that addresses the life of Christians from the beginning up to the present day.
