Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan Receives Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein
Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Mr Sadiq Sanjrani, has received the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Fuad Hussein, and his accompanying delegation in his office, on the sidelines of his participation in the 48th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, which was held in Islamabad. The Minister conveyed the greetings of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Dr Barham Salih, and Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, and His Excellency offered his congratulations on the occasion of the Pakistani National Day. The Minister extended his thanks to the Chairman of the Senate for the warm welcome, as well as to the Government of Pakistan for the good organisation of the meeting.
Mr Fuad Hussein explained the democratic process in Iraq, Iraq’s regional role and its attempts to enhance cooperation and maintain regional peace and security. The two sides discussed many current international issues and their repercussions on international peace and security, and agreed on the importance of giving priority to the language of dialogue and following peaceful and diplomatic means in settling disputes between countries to maintain international peace and security.
The two sides confirmed the importance of exchanging visits between high-level delegations from both countries in various fields, as Mr Fuad Hussein invited the Chairman of the Senate to visit Iraq.
On his part, the Chairman of the Senate referred to the history and depth of the bilateral relations between Iraq and Pakistan and the ties between the two peoples. He valued Iraq’s role and participation in the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and commended the sacrifices made by Iraq to combat terrorism. Looking forward to consolidating the relations between the two countries and enhancing ties on various fields to serve the common interests.
The Undersecretary for Legal Affairs and Multilateral Relations, Dr Qahtan Taha Khalaf, and Head of the Department of International Organisations and Conferences, Dr Abbas Kadhem Obaid, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Pakistan, Mr Hamid Abbas Lafta have attended the meeting.
