Head of the Department of Human Rights Meets Coordinator for Protection Section of the Mission of International Committee of the Red Cross in Iraq
Dr Hisham Al-Alawi, Head of the Department of Human Rights, has met Ms Alicia Bertley, the coordinator of the Protection Section of the Mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Baghdad, in the ministry’s headquarters.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the work of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Iraq, and the efforts of the Iraqi government to close the camps of the displaced and bring them back to their residential areas, where the Ambassador Al-Alawi confirmed the need for continued cooperation and communication between the Ministry and the Red Cross Mission. He also affirmed the importance of cooperation with the International Committee for Missing Persons to help with the missing persons file. Mr Al-Alawi called for the possibility of providing support to women and children returning from Al-Hol camp to Al-Jada’a camp through rehabilitation programmes offered by the Mission to them.
On her part, Ms Bertley spoke about the visits which the Mission conducts to the Iraqi prisons and the latest developments related to discussing the draft memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Justice. She also spoke about the conditions of the displaced Iraqis and Syrian refugees in Iraq, the efforts of her Mission, and the visits conducted by the Mission to their camps in the Kurdistan region.
