Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of Iraq in Brussels Meets Regional Representative of the United Nations Development Programme in Iraq
Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of Iraq, Minister Plenipotentiary, Dr Fadel Al-Rahim has met in Brussels, the Regional Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Iraq, Mrs Zina Ali Ahmed. During the meeting, they exchanged views on the programmes and initiatives of the United Nations Development Programme in Iraq, which are funded by the European Union and its member states.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr Al-Rahim reviewed the Embassy’s efforts and the mobility it is conducting with the European Union institutions on a number of initiatives launched by the European Union in cooperation with international organisations, European NGOs and civil society organisations in Iraq, commending the efforts made by the United Nations Development Programme in Iraq, emphasizing the importance of increasing coordination and cooperation with the Iraqi bodies benefited from the aforementioned programme.
On her part, Ms Zina Ahmed gave a briefing of the projects of the United Nations Development Programme and the most important challenges encountered by the programme in the field of restoring stability to areas liberated from the gangs of the terrorist organisation ISIS, including projects implemented to rehabilitate infrastructure, reform the security sector and provide technical advice to the Iraqi authorities in the area environment and combating climate change and other areas.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Dr Al-Rahim stressed the importance of follow up the outcomes and results of the projects implemented by the United Nations Development Program in Iraq, to ensure the extent to which the anticipated benefit is achieved, affirming also the need to expand the programmes to cover the voluntary return of Iraqis from the European Union countries to Iraq so as to expedite their reintegration into their home communities.
