Senior Undersecretary Meets the Head of Middle East Department at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office
On 9/3/2022, Senior Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Nizar Al-Khairallah, met Ambassador Stephen Hickey, Head of the Middle East Department at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, former Ambassador to Iraq, as they exchanged views on the related topics and the Russian war on Ukraine. Mr Nizar Al-Khairallah mentioned the importance of resolving the conflict peacefully and Iraq’s rejection of wars in general, and the need to respect the Charter of the United Nations and related international covenants.
On his part, Ambassador Hickey stated the UK’s keenness to achieve stability in the region and described the British government’s clear position to end the war immediately, and the efforts to address the Ukrainian refugee crisis fleeing the war and provide support to Ukraine within this framework.
The two sides exchanged views on activating the bilateral cooperation, developing the relations between Iraq and the United Kingdom, means of providing assistance and support in various fields, and moving forward in implementing bilateral files.
The Senior Undersecretary referred to Iraq’s interest in achieving the best relations, developing cooperation and maintaining communication in the interest of the two countries.
