Minister of Foreign Affairs Receives Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Jennifer Gavito
Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein has received, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Iraq and Iran affairs, Ms Jennifer Gavito, with the presence of the US Ambassador to Iraq, Mr Matthew Tueller, and the Director of National Security for Iraq and Syria, Ms Zahra Bell.
During the meeting, they discussed the bilateral relations between the two countries, and ways to develop the joint cooperation between Baghdad and Washington. The two sides discussed the Iraqi situation and the formation of the new Iraqi government and the obstacles it encounters.
They also discussed the outstanding problems between the federal government and the regional government and how to find practical solutions to resolve these problems.
The meeting witnessed a discussion of a number of international and regional issues, and files of common interest, foremost of which are the security and military developments in Ukraine and how this conflict affects the security situation in the region in general and the economic situation in particular.
They also referred to the discussions in Vienna between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America and other concerned countries, as Foreign Minister Mr Fuad Hussein hoped to reach an agreement within the upcoming short period.
They also touched upon the global oil market and the increase in its prices and its impact on oil-producing and non-oil-producing countries, as rising prices in general affects non-oil-producing countries, especially African countries negatively.
