Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim Hands Over Archeological Artefacts to Minister of Culture and Archeology
Foreign Minister Mr. Mohamad A. Alhakim handed over to the Minister of Culture and Antiquities Mr. Abdul Amir Al-Hamdani archaeological artefacts that were obtained by the Foreign Ministry from several countries through coordination between the embassies of Iraq and the countries where these pieces were located and which were removed from Iraq illegally.
The two Ministers signed the receipt and delivery protocol at a ceremony held at the Foreign Ministry, attended by several media outlets.
Minister Alhakim stressed that the Ministry is exerting utmost efforts to return all the smuggled antiquities from abroad, and expressed the ministry’s readiness to provide all facilities and full support to the Ministry of Culture and its relevant committees in the search for antiquities abroad and their return.
These pieces were seals seized by the British authorities during an attempt to enter them illegally, and pottery vases that were borrowed by the head of the Polish excavation mission operating in Iraq in 1985; Polish scientists conducted a series of experiments and research on textile that covered the inside of the tomb.
