Foreign Minister and His Omani counterpart Agree on Meeting Date for the joint Iraqi-Omani committee
On Thursday, 16/9/2021, the Foreign Minister, Fuad Hussein, met with his Omani counterpart, Badr Al-Busaidi, on the sidelines of his participation in the meeting of the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries in Riyadh. During the meeting, they emphasized the importance of advancing bilateral relations to achieve the interests of both countries. The two sides agreed on the date of the meeting of the Iraqi-Omani joint committee next March and the formation of a technical team between the two countries to prepare for the success of the tasks of the joint committee and work to establish an Iraqi-Omani business council.
The Minister Fuad Hussein expressed Iraq’s aspiration to activate cooperation frameworks with Oman in various fields in light of the distinguished relations between the two countries, and he briefed his Omani counterpart on the outcomes of the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership. The two sides discussed regional security challenges and itsrepercussions on the situation in Iraq. The Minister called for the necessity of adopting the principle of dialogue in resolving disputes in order to seek an endto crises in the region.
On the political issue, the Minister stressed that the upcoming elections on the tenth of October are apivotal event in Iraqi political history, and the Iraqi government worked to complete all the requirements of the electoral process.
For his part, Mr. Badr al-Busaidi, the Omani Minister of Foreign Affairs, praised Iraq’s efforts in the success of the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership, and may it be a fruit and a beginning on the right path for Iraq’s return to its natural position and a basic nucleus for stability in the region.
