Foreign Minister Stresses Need to Activate the Iraq-Pakistan Joint Committee
On 17 June 2021, Foreign Minister, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein met with his Pakistani counterpart, Mr. Makhdoom Shah Mahmoud Qureshi, and discussed ways to strengthen and develop bilateral relations between the two countries on issues of common interest, especially economy to achieve the common interest of the two friendly countries.
The Minister indicated that Pakistan is an important partner for Iraq, and the two countries have long-standing relations and common factors, including, confronting terrorism and extremism.
This meeting came in the context of the Minister’s participation in the work of the Antalya Diplomatic Forum.
The two sides stressed the need to activate the Iraqi-Pakistani joint committee, and expedite the completion of agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two countries.
The two sides also discussed joint cooperation in the field of energy, the issue of religious tourism and ways to facilitate the granting of entry visas to Pakistani visitors wishing to visit the holy shrines in Iraq, due to their great importance to Muslims in the world, and they also touched upon the activation of a direct flight from Baghdad to Islamabad and vise-versa, activating economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
For his part, the Pakistani Foreign Minister expressed his country’s aspiration for more joint cooperation with Iraq in all fields, the most important of which is cooperation in the field of combating terrorism and religious tourism.
