Ambassador of Republic of Iraq to The Hague Heads Iraqi Delegation Participating in Meetings of Executive Council of OPCW
Ambassador of Iraq in the Kingdom of Netherlands and Permanent Representative of Iraq to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Mr. Hisham Al-Alawi led the Iraqi delegation participating in the 91st session of the Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), held in The Hague for 9-12/7/2019/
Ambassador Al-Alawi delivered the national statement of the Republic of Iraq to the delegations of Member States on the first day of the session, in which he extended his congratulations to Mr. Andrea Perugini, Ambassador of Italy and Chairman of the Executive Council at its current session, and to his new deputies on the occasion of their election to the presidency of the Council at this session. Ambassador Al-Alawi also expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Director General of the Organization, Mr. Fernando Aireas Gonzalez, and to all the technical staff of the Organization for their continued support for Iraq.
In his speech, the Ambassador referred to Iraq’s firm and clear position that the Organization should be excluded from any operations leading to the politicization of its work and the need to preserve the Organization’s identity as a technical organization calling on those States which have not acceded to the Convention to accede to it as soon as possible.
