Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein Meets with Foreign Minister of Republic of Cyprus
Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein met with Foreign Minister of the Republic of Cyprus and discussed the bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to advance them in order to serve the common interests, in the framework of supporting investment and trade exchange and enhancing development .
During the meeting, they discussed the possibility of signing a memorandum of understanding between the two sides to exempt holders of diplomatic and service passports from travel visa and another memorandum in the field of double tax exemption.
The Minister also indicated the importance of supporting Iraq to remove its name from the list of high-risk countries in the areas of money laundering and terrorist financing.
On his part, the Cypriot Minister expressed his country’s support for Iraq in this regard.
Minister Fuad Hussein also extended an invitation to his Cypriot counterpart to visit Iraq during the month of June this year, with a trade and investment delegation from the Cypriot side to meet in Baghdad with Iraqi commercial and investment sectors in order to consolidate the aspects of the partnership and advance joint economic work to serve the interests of the two friendly countries, and called for the investment in the sectors of health, education and culture.
The Minister also thanked his Cypriot counterpart for hosting Iraqi refugees.
The two sides discussed regional and international conditions and exchanged views on them, and the need to have visions that enhance stability and support participatory solutions, in order to achieve the desired development.
The Minister concluded his conversation with his counterpart by issuing an invitation to open an office for the Cypriot embassy in Baghdad, and to provide services in a way that strengthens bilateral relations.
