The Foreign Minister Chairs an Expanded Meeting with Chairman of the Independent High Electoral Commission

The Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein, chaired  on Sunday17/1/2020 in the building of the Iraqi Foreign Ministry an expanded meeting attended by Judge Jalil Adnan Khalaf, Chairman of Council of Independent High Electoral Commission.

During the meeting, they discussed preparations for holding early elections during this year.The Minister affirmed that the government is preceding with early elections, which is one of the most important objectives of the government’s program and stressed the government’s willingness to fulfill all the requirements, and to provide a safe environment for conducting fair elections that meet international standards.

The discussion touched on the steps taken by the Foreign Ministry regarding communication with international organizations and the United Nations and their support for the electoral process and inviting international observers to monitor them

They also discussed issues related to technical aspects, especially joint cooperation between the Foreign Ministry and international organizations. The Minister affirmed that the ministry would put all its capabilities in cooperation with international organizations and observers for the success of the elections.

On his part, the Chairman of the Independent High Electoral Commission stressed the need for all ministries and state institutions to cooperate with the Electoral Commission to accomplish its plans, and presented a report on the preparations made by the Commission for the success of the electoral process.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Karim Al-Tamimi, Advisor to the President, Mr. Abdul Hussein Al-Hendawi, Adviser to the Prime Minister, and a representative of the United Nations Mission (UNAMI).
