Iraq Participates in Emergency Dialogue on Racial Discrimination
The Chargé d’affaires and the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations Office in Geneva Mr. Abbas Kadhim Obaid participated in the emergency dialogue session called by the African Group on racist practices in the work of the (43) session of the Human Rights Council.
In his speech at the meeting, Dr. Abbas stressed the importance of constructive international cooperation to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination, stressing the right of every person to live in dignity, stating that the multiplicity of races, colour, religions, and sects are elements of strength for our societies if set under the umbrella of humanity
Adding that the international community issued several international instruments, including the Durban Declaration and Program of Action to combat racism, our world still witnesses contemporary and different types of racial discrimination, indicating the importance of differentiating between patterns and consistent and systematic practices of violations in the context of discrimination and the importance of national mechanisms for accounting of violations.
