Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Meets his Dutch Counterpart in The Hague

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein met on Wednesday 2 April 2025, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Mr. Caspar Veldkamp ​​at the Dutch Foreign Ministry headquarters in The Hague. The Dutch Minister welcomed Minister Hussein and his accompanying delegation, stressing the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between Baghdad and The Hague.

The two sides discussed the latest developments in the Middle East and the security challenges facing the region, in addition Minister Fuad Hussein presented Iraq’s vision on the regional situation and relations with neighboring countries.

Additionally the two ministers discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and the need to continue communication and joint coordination through rounds of political consultations and enhancing bilateral visits. In this context, the Minister extended an invitation to his Dutch counterpart to visit Iraq, which the latter welcomed and expressed his hope to fulfill this visit soon.

 Minister Fuad Hussein expressed his satisfaction with the development of relations between the two governments, commending the Kingdom of the Netherlands’ role in leading the NATO mission in Iraq, which is scheduled to end it’s task next May.

Regarding the work of the Joint High Committee for Agriculture and Water between the two countries, both sides underlined the importance of holding ongoing meetings to enhance cooperation in water resources management and agriculture, and to benefit from the Dutch experience in this field.

Regarding Arab relations, the Minister referred to the next Arab Summit scheduled to be held in Baghdad, affirming Iraq’s commitment to the success of its work in light of current regional developments.

At the end of the meeting, the two ministers emphasized the importance of continuing communication and joint coordination, especially during the next phase.
