Undersecretary for Political Planning Chairs a Meeting wit Representatives of Ministries and Authorities Concerned with Water and Climate Dialogue Initiative

Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Political Planning Ambassador Dr. Hisham Al Alawi, chaired a meeting on March 19, 2025, at the Ministry’s headquarters. The meeting was attended by Advisor to the President of the Republic of Iraq and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Blue Peace Initiative Dr. Mohammad Amin Fares, Advisor to the Prime Minister Dr. Sadiq Jawad, and representatives from the National Security Advisory, the Ministry of Water Resources, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Environment, as well as the Ministry’s departments (Political Planning, Legal, Europe, Arab, and Neighboring Countries). The meeting discussed the Water and Climate Dialogue for Regional Prosperity and Peacebuilding initiative, launched by the Department of Political Planning in cooperation with the Geneva Water Hub.

The Undersecretary reviewed the action plan submitted by the Swiss side, along with a brief of the outcomes of his meetings with representatives of the Geneva Water Hub and the Swiss Peace Foundation last February. The meeting also discussed the visions and proposals of the relevant parties regarding the proposed plan for the initiative.

Additionally, Undersecretary Al Alawi addressed the need for Iraq and its regional neighbors to establish a platform for cooperation and dialogue to enhance regional stability, affirming that water and climate diplomacy can play a significant role in strengthening peace and stability in the region.
