Ambassador Ahmed Barwari Participates in European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with Iraq

At the invitation of the European Parliament, Iraq’s Ambassador to Belgium Mr. Ahmed Tahseen Berwari, participated in the regular meeting of the European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with Iraq, held in Brussels on 20 March 2025.
The meeting was chaired by MEP Ioan-Rares, Chair of the delegation for the European People’s Party, and attended by Ms. Anna-Maria Panagiotakopoulou, Head Arabian Peninsula and Iraq division at the External Action Service, and Counselor Ali Saleh, in charge of the European Parliament desk at the Iraqi Embassy.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Chair of the Delegation on Relations with Iraq expressed the European Union’s keenness to strengthen bilateral relations with Iraq across various areas, considering it a strategic partner, emphasizing his aspiration to develop parliamentary relations through the eighth parliamentary meeting scheduled to be held in Brussels in mid-May 2025. As well he commended Iraq’s role and importance in light of the challenges facing the Middle East region, emphasizing the European Union’s continued support for Iraq.
On his part, Ambassador Berwari affirmed the importance of strengthening the partnership between Iraq and the European Union, indicating the pursuit to hold a ministerial cooperation council meeting between the two sides during the current year. In addition, the Ambassador provided a briefing on the positive developments in Iraq at the political and economic levels, highlighting the importance of the Arab Summit scheduled to be held in Baghdad on May 17, the Third Baghdad Conference for Partnership and Cooperation, and the upcoming legislative elections. As well he stressed the importance of continuing cooperation between Iraq and the European Union across various areas.
