Statement

The Iraqi Consulate building in Istanbul was subjected to gunfire by unknown individuals riding a motorcycle at 9:00 PM on Friday 21 March 2025. The gunmen armed with a Kalashnikov, fired eight bullets at the building’s facade before fleeing.
Immediately after the incident, the Iraqi Consul General and consulate representatives headed to the site to clarify the details of the incident. The Turkish security authorities closed the street surrounding the consulate and started an investigation and collecting evidence in the presence of representatives of the Iraqi diplomatic mission.
While the Foreign Ministry affirms its ongoing follow-up with the relevant Turkish authorities to reveal the circumstances behind this incident and hold the perpetrators accountable, it appreciates the quick response of the Turkish authorities and the security measures they have taken, underlining the importance of enhancing the necessary measures to protect diplomatic missions in accordance with international agreements.
