Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations Receives Chargé d’Affaires of US Embassy in Baghdad

Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Bilateral Relations Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr Aluloom received the Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy Ms. Elizabeth Trudeau at the Ministry’s headquarters in Baghdad on Tuesday 18 March 2025, with the attendance of representatives from the political division of the US Embassy.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral relations between Iraq and the United States and ways to enhance joint cooperation across various areas. In addition to discussing a number of regional and international issues. Undersecretary Bahr Aluloom affirmed Iraq’s keenness to develop its relations with the United States in all fields in a manner that serves the common interests of both countries.
On her part, Ms. Trudeau underlined the United States’ commitment to supporting Iraq and strengthening joint cooperation, affirming that Iraq is an important strategic partner for the United States in the region.
The meeting also addressed developments in the regional situation and their impact on Iraq, with attaching special importance on the situation in Syria and the need to intensify efforts to achieve security and stability there. The Undersecretary affirmed that Syria’s stability represents a priority for the Iraqi government, stressing the importance of joint coordination to ensure a comprehensive transitional phase that preserves the rights of all components and consolidates security in the region.
In another context, the Undersecretary reiterated the Iraqi government’s readiness to host the Arab Summit in Baghdad on its scheduled date of May 17, explaining that Iraq is working to provide all necessary conditions to ensure the summit’s success which will enhance joint Arab action and reflect a positive image of the country.
At the end of the meeting both sides underlined the importance of strengthening cooperation between Iraq and the United States, serving common interests and contributing to achieving regional stability.
The meeting was attended by the Acting Head of America Department Dr. Diyari Ahmed Majeed, and deputy head of the Department Mr. Nizar Al Hakim.
